Gluten Free Diet

There are many people that suffer from Celiac disease or have some kind of wheat intolerance.  This can make their food planning somewhat difficult.  A gluten free diet that is necessary for those with these conditions will consist of products that do not contain any wheat, or any traces of wheat products in it.  Many people that have to have this kind of diet will need to rethink and relearn some of the methods of eating that they have become accustomed to.

If you need to be on a gluten free diet, you will need to be careful about the different products that you purchase.  It is very important that you make sure that you read the labels for any derivatives of wheat or wheat by products.  For some people, even a trace amount of wheat can lead to devastating results.  Just because the word “wheat” is not listed, you still need to be careful.  There are forms of gluten that are even used in ice cream and ketchup.  There are even some prescriptions and vitamins that have wheat products as well as cosmetics.

All of this seems to be insurmountable.  However, this is not necessarily the case.  With some modifications, you can learn gluten-free cooking.  Today, we are lucky to have many wheat-free flours that we can purchase. There are also many other prepared foods that are gluten-free as well.  If you take a look in your grocery store, you will see different types of pastas as well breads that are available.  This is definitely a change over the past several years.  It used to be that you had to make your own flour as well as many of your baked goods. Gluten free pastas were not even on the market yet. With so many people suffering from gluten allergies or suffering from Celiac disease, we see more products that can make cooking simple. An important factor to remember is that fruits and vegetables do not contain gluten. For that matter, all of our fresh meats and seafood also do not have forms of gluten. The point is fresh foods are the best ones to probably purchase.  We do not have to worry about any additives and can be guaranteed that they will not make us sick. Gluten free diet cooking has been made a lot easier. Make sure you read labels.
