Don’t Make These Mistakes with Black Rugs

A black rug can be very chic or it can be a disaster in your home if you don’t get things right. Here are some tips on what to avoid when buying and using black rugs.

1. Don’t Use Black in the Wrong Room

Black is a very strong color so it is not right for every room or every color scheme. Although it looks good with white and gray in a monochromatic color scheme, it is too strong and dark for almost every other light color in your interior. So it would be difficult to use a black rug in a pale blue, yellow, peach or pink color scheme unless you are an extremely clever and resourceful decorator.

2. Don’t Be Too Plain

A plain black rug can look very dramatic but it is also not very decorative. You can often make more impact with your rug if you choose a pattern. The type of pattern gives the rug a style which should match that of the room. A large geometric pattern with few colors would look good in a contemporary room whereas a small traditional pattern containing quite a few colors in a regular pattern would be right for a more traditional setting.

3. Don’t Be Too Cheap

Black is a color where quality counts so a thick pile black wool rug (especially in a plain color) will look far better than a thin synthetic one. (In a plain rug, all you have to go on is the quality of the materials). Also, don’t skimp on the size of your rug to save a few dollars – get the right size for the area of the room where you will put your rug.

4. Don’t Pay Too Much

Although you are looking for quality, you don’t have to pay the earth by buying the latest designer rug. You can get good quality black rugs on the web at reasonable cost and have them delivered right to your door.
