Beauty found with Travertine Tiles

Homeowners often find themselves wanting to remodel their home either to boost the selling price, or change the look to something that better fits their ideal home. Travertine tiles are great to use to do just that. This stone is found forming stalagmites and stalactites in limestone caves. It is a softer stone that comes with holes in the surface. These holes can be filled or left unfilled, depending on the look you want. Travertine tile can be polished to be very shiny, polished a left as a matte finish, or tumbled such that the edges are rounded but the surface in left unfinished and holes left unfilled. Travertine does come in different colors ranging from yellow-gold to red, brown and beige. You can also find these tiles in different sizes. Very popular choices to use these tiles are in the kitchen, around a fireplace, and in the bathroom. It isn’t as popular and harder to manage if used as a floor tile. As mentioned, this stone is softer and more damage can occur if frequently walked on (especially with pets or high heels). This stone is also sensitive to acidic substances such as citrus juices, pasta sauces, and many floor cleaners. But if appropriate care is taken, you can still easily enjoy the natural beauty this stone has.

Because of the complications that can be found when using travertine as a floor tile, travertine wall tiles are more common. These wall tiles create a beautiful look when used as a shower wall, backsplash in the bathroom or kitchen, and as a wall around a fireplace. These tiles are easy to clean-just some hot water and a sponge does the trick. There are special stone cleaners that can be bought in order to obtain a “deeper” clean than just hot water. But when using cleaners, make sure they are made for travertine and do not contain any acidic substance. If these precautions are taken, this tile will last and continue to create a naturally beautiful looking home.
